Lip reader uncovers Denzel Washington’s words during tense moment with photographer at Cannes red carpet

A recent exchange involving Denzel Washington on the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival captured attention, particularly after being analyzed by a professional lip reader.

The double Oscar winner, 70, was present for the world premiere of Spike Lee’s “Highest 2” on Monday. However, his charming appearance was somewhat overshadowed by a heated moment when he became visibly frustrated.

Jeremy Freeman, a lip-reading expert, detailed the tense moment. It seems Washington reacted after the photographer touched his arm, saying, “Hey, one more time – stop again.”

He continued, “Tell me – stop, stop – don’t put your hands on me again,” expressing his irritation loudly. The photographer reportedly responded with, “not allowed,” before breaking into a smile.

After a brief pause, the photographer asked, “Can I take a picture?” This prompted Washington to raise his voice, repeating, “Stop, stop, stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it.” Despite the intensity of their interaction, the photographer and colleagues seemed to find humor in what was unfolding.

Washington’s representative has been contacted for a comment on the situation.

Moments before this incident, he appeared to be enjoying the company of Spike Lee and rapper A$AP Rocky. It was noticeable that he was in high spirits, glowing with excitement as he received a prestigious honor from Lee, which seemed to overshadow the earlier discord.

Lee introduced Washington warmly, saying, “This is my brother. I love him, I love him. I’m happy you are here where you all love you.” Washington expressed surprise and gratitude for the award, saying, “This is a complete surprise to me, so I’m a bit emotional.” He reflected on the privilege of being able to work with Lee, calling him “another mother’s brother.”

He also acknowledged the special moment at Cannes, sharing, “We are a very privileged group in this room so we can make movies, wear tuxedos and nice clothes, dress up and pay for it. You know, we are blessed beyond measurement.” Washington genuinely expressed his thankfulness, saying, “I am blessed from the bottom of my heart, thank you. Thank you very much.”
