Fans have certainly influenced Taylor Swift’s latest move.
She has released her much-anticipated re-recording of “Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor’s Version)” on the popular series “The Handmaid’s Tale,” making it the first full re-record in her “Taylor’s Version” collection.
When the ninth episode of the sixth season aired on Monday night, viewers were treated to the complete track.
This moment occurred in a dramatic scene where Elizabeth Moss’s character, June, led a rebellious uprising against the commanders.
Moss, expressing her excitement, called the song “the perfect track for the perfect moment,” adding that she had long wanted to incorporate Swift’s music into her projects. “I’m really glad the stars aligned for this,” she said.
Moss conveyed pride for herself and her castmates in her statement, which appeared in Billboard.
On Tuesday, she went on to describe Swift as “such an inspiration,” speaking on behalf of herself and co-star Yvonne Strahovski. “It’s a great honor to use her music in the final episode of our show,” she noted.
This was the first instance fans could hear the full version of the song, which had previously been shared in snippets over several years.
Swift has been teasing her re-recordings for a while now. Some songs were featured in a 2023 sneak peek for “The Wilderness” and the following year’s documentary series about the New England Patriots.
Originally, Swift released “reputation” in 2017, and after that, she began the process of re-recording her earlier albums initially released under Big Machine Records.
Her efforts have yielded new versions of “Fearless,” “Red,” “Speak Now,” and “1989.” Fans eagerly anticipated more Easter eggs related to “reputation,” especially as Swift picked out outfits for a Mother’s Day brunch with her boyfriend, Travis Kelce’s family.
In a recent interview, she humorously commented on her creative process, saying she feels like she’s “gathering Horcruxes” and “Infinity Stones,” likening her work to a cinematic experience. “Gandalf’s voice is in my head every time I put out something new,” she remarked.
