S&P 500 futures decline after the index increases for the sixth consecutive day: Live updates

Market Update: Futures Dip, S&P 500’s Streak at Risk

On Tuesday morning, stock futures showed a decline, putting the S&P 500’s six-day winning streak at risk. The S&P 500 futures fell by 0.2%, while Nasdaq 100 futures dropped by 0.3%. In contrast, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures managed to hold steady, showing minor gains.

Home Depot’s stocks were anticipated to rise by 2% during pre-market trading, reflecting an impressive 2.8% increase in year-over-year sales. This surge came after home improvement retailers adjusted their full-year forecasts. The company’s CFO Richard McPhail mentioned there are currently no plans to raise prices in response to increasing tariffs.

Trading has been relatively quiet in the lead-up to Tuesday’s performance, with the S&P 500 achieving a 0.09% gain after a positive streak. Meanwhile, the Dow gained around 137 points, translating to a 0.32% increase, whereas the Nasdaq Composite saw a slight rise of just 0.02%.

Despite Monday’s modest gains, they contribute to a notable recovery in stock performance over the past five weeks. The S&P 500 now sits only 3% below its all-time high.

These profits have emerged even amidst ongoing uncertainty regarding the effects of tariffs on the economy and looming fears of a potential U.S. recession. Investor sentiment has also been shaped by Moody’s recent assessment of the government’s performance.

This backdrop creates a climate of skepticism regarding the market rally. However, Ryan Detrick, chief market strategist at Carson Group, emphasized that investors should take the rebounds seriously. He acknowledged that while concerns are valid, one can’t ignore the market’s momentum.

On Tuesday, traders will be attentive to comments from St. Louis Federal Reserve President Alberto Mu Salem regarding interest rate policies, adding another layer of anticipation to the trading day.
