A maintenance worker at a New Orleans prison, accused of aiding in the escape of 10 inmates last week, was arrested late Monday. Reports indicate that Sterling Williams, 33, allegedly obstructed the water supply to a cell at the Orleans Parish Judicial Center.
According to sources, seven of the ten inmates who made a daring escape on Friday are still at large.
Following the escape, an employee was taken into custody, and three other prison staff members have been suspended as of Tuesday morning. Among the ten escaped prisoners, only four have been captured, leading to further investigations by law enforcement.
Officials pointed out security concerns, including malfunctioning cell doors and insufficient staffing. The FBI has intensified its efforts, offering up to $5,000 for information that could help in tracking down the escaped inmates.
