TGL Expands with New Team in Detroit
TGL’s social media teased some exciting news late Monday, which became official as lunch was starting on the East Coast on Tuesday.
The league is welcoming its seventh team, the Motor City Golf Club, marking a significant expansion since its inception in 2027.
This new Detroit franchise is part of ownership that includes the NFL’s Detroit Lions and the Denver Broncos. While player details remain uncertain, fans in the 313 area will surely have representation.
“This is a fantastic moment for Detroit sports, and it’s a personal source of pride for me,” said Michael Hamp, co-owner of Middle West Partners and the newly appointed Team Governor of Motor City Golf Club. “My grandfather, William Clay Ford Sr., was passionate about golf, and I think he would be proud of us bringing a new version of the game he loved. I’m truly honored to help build this team. Detroit fans are the most dedicated in the sport, and they will represent TGL well.”
The inaugural season of TGL exceeded expectations, providing plenty of interesting learning moments. With this expansion already set for the upcoming 2027 season, it’s clear TGL is here to stay.
With the addition of this seventh team, it seems like a move toward achieving a balanced number of teams, which typically simplifies things. There’s been chatter lately about a Dallas-based franchise, potentially introducing PGA Championship winner Scotty Schaeffler into the fold.
