Florida Gators Enhance Roster with Boogie Fland
The reigning national champions, the Florida Gators, significantly boosted their prospects for the next season by acquiring transfer guard Boogie Fland from Arkansas on Tuesday.
Standing at 6’2, Fland recently explored his options in the NBA draft process before deciding to return to college for his sophomore year. It’s been reported that he will receive over $2 million to join Todd Golden’s team for the 2025-26 season.
Fland’s freshman year in Arkansas started off strong, but his season was cut short due to a right thumb injury during a game against Florida on January 11. He managed to return just in time for the NCAA tournament, where the 10th-seeded Razorbacks unexpectedly advanced to the Sweet 16.
Prior to his injury, Fland averaged 15.1 points and 5.7 assists per game. However, he came off the bench in all three March Madness games, totaling only 12 points and five assists.
At Gainesville, Fland will team up with Princeton transfer Xaivian Lee to create what could be one of the most intriguing backcourts in college basketball for the 2025-26 season. Together, they will aim to replicate the success of last year’s backcourt, which led Florida to their first national title since 2007.
Although much of UF’s backcourt production from last season has departed, the frontcourt remains largely intact. Thomas Haugh (9.8 ppg/6.1 RPG) is returning, and Rueben Chinyelu (6.0 ppg/6.6 RPG) recently withdrew from the NBA Draft. If they can start with Alex Condon (10.6 ppg/7.5 RPG), then Chinyelu’s return could push the Gators closer to a preseason top 10 ranking.
The pairing of Fland and Lee, a two-time first-team All-Ivy League selection, should allow Florida to maintain the uptempo style that has been successful under Golden. Last year, the Gators played at the 57th fastest pace in Division I while finishing second in offensive efficiency.
Interestingly, Fland was previously ranked No. 5 on SB Nation’s list of the top ten players available on the Transfer Portal.
