Sarah Silverman Reveals Family Secret About Brother’s Death
In a recent interview, Sarah Silverman opened up about a shocking revelation from her late father, Donald Silverman, concerning the tragic death of her brother, Jeffrey. The 54-year-old comedian reflected on the moment her father disclosed that he believed something more sinister had occurred surrounding Jeffrey’s passing.
Silverman, during the interview with a magazine, mentioned how her father once said to her, “I’m about to drop a big bomb.” This revelation came years after Donald had told her a different version of events regarding Jeffrey’s death.
For most of her life, she had accepted a narrative where, during a vacation involving her parents, there was a tragic incident in which Jeffrey, just a baby at the time, suffocated in his crib. “But when I think back, there were never any lawsuits against the crib company,” Silverman noted.
Things took a turn when Donald joined the production of Silverman’s musical adaptation of her memoir “The Bedwetter” in New York City. During this time, he suggested that Jeffrey’s death might not have been as innocent as originally portrayed.
In the show, there’s a scene where a younger version of Silverman humorously references her brother’s passing. Donald’s reaction was quite alarming; he shared a story about how his own father, described as “violent,” may have inadvertently killed Jeffrey. “My dad said, ‘He was always crying or something, so my dad rocked him. He shook him with rage and killed him,'” Silverman recounted.
These words resonated deeply with her, especially considering the troubled childhood Donald endured, which included experiencing abuse from his own father.
Reflecting on her father’s claim, Silverman stated, “As soon as he said it, it was like, ‘Of course, that’s what happened.’ His mother always stood by her husband, even while being aware of the violence.” She shared a story of playing poker with Donald when he once talked about religious figures, adding humor to what was likely an intense moment. “He had a knack for dropping bombs,” she said with a chuckle.
Donald Silverman passed away in May 2023, a year after sharing this startling story with Sarah. Their family dynamics were complicated; her parents divorced when she was young and underwent further heartache with the loss of family members. Following her father’s death, Silverman honored him online, referring to him as her “best companion” and noting that he cherished his family deeply.
Despite the painful revelations, it’s clear that Silverman holds on to cherished memories of her father and family. “He always claimed to be the wealthiest man in the world because of his family, and I believe that was true for him,” she remarked, reflecting on the love they shared.
