NYU Langone plans to invest $650M to revitalize struggling LI hospital: ‘Significant effect’

Nyu Langone’s Major Investment in Patchogue Long Island Hospital

Nyu Langone is committing $650 million to significantly expand its recently acquired Patchogue Long Island Hospital.

Now named Nyu Langone Hospital-Suffolk, previously known as Long Island Community Hospital, the facility plans to construct a new 144-bed tower featuring private rooms, enhanced services, and state-of-the-art medical technology.

At present, Suffolk County Hospital is equipped with 306 beds, 11 operating rooms, and 20 inpatient psychiatric beds.

Officials note that this renovation will modernize the existing medical center and establish it as a key local resource.

“That will have a huge impact,” Dr. Ravi Gupta, the hospital’s chief medical officer, mentioned in a statement. He remarked that the current facility reflects an aging hospital system. The planned upgrades will allow for improved patient care through modern facilities with advanced technology focused on infection prevention and efficient healthcare delivery.

The hospital, which merged with Nyu Langone in March, aims to reopen inpatient psychological units alongside the construction of a new outpatient center.

The proposed new tower, which is pending state approval, will represent the most substantial enhancement to the hospital thus far.

The health system submitted the necessary certification to the state recently, marking an important milestone in the expansion process. Although hospital officials have not disclosed the number of stories the new wings will feature, they indicate plans to centralize nursing operations and incorporate additional services like pharmacies, physical therapy, and infection prevention measures.
