Fifth escaped inmate caught in New Orleans, five still at large in Louisiana

Inmate Recaptured After New Orleans Escape

In a recent development, Louisiana State Police confirmed that Corey Boyd is the fifth inmate to be recaptured from a group that escaped from a New Orleans prison last Friday. Boyd, who is 19 years old, was taken into custody on Tuesday after being spotted just hours post-escape.

Authorities have linked Boyd to the murder of Brandon Fees during a car theft in 2024. Initially, he faced serious charges including second-degree murder, as well as attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery, and threats against law enforcement officials.

“Boyd will eventually be moved to a more secure state facility to prevent any further escape attempts,” a post from state police indicated.

While Boyd has been recaptured, three other escapees—Kendall Miles, Dokentan Dennis, and Robert Moody—were caught within 24 hours of fleeing. Another, Gary C. Price, was apprehended on Monday.

Local and federal law enforcement agencies continue their extensive search for the remaining escapees, who are listed as follows:

  • Renton J. Van Brenjnia, age 26, charged with illegal transport of weapons and possession of firearms.
  • Jermaine Donald, age 42, facing charges including second-degree murder and obstruction of justice.
  • Antoine Massey, age 32, has charges related to domestic abuse and car theft.
  • Derrick Groves, age 27, charged with multiple counts including attempted second-degree murder.
  • Leo O. Tate Sr., age 31, faces numerous charges including robbery and drug-related offenses.

Additionally, a prison maintenance worker named Sterling Williams was arrested for allegedly aiding the escapees. At 33, he faces ten counts related to the escape and misconduct during his employment.

“Williams admitted that an escapee instructed him to turn off the water in the cell, which he did instead of notifying authorities, thereby enabling the escape plan,” Attorney General Liz Maril stated.
