Colbert Compares Trump to Bruce Springsteen in Late-Night Segment
On a recent episode of his late-night show, Stephen Colbert took aim at President Trump, drawing a parallel between him and iconic rock star Bruce Springsteen.
Colbert expressed disbelief over Trump’s reaction to Springsteen’s criticism, stating, “What are you doing? Attacking Bruce is like attacking America itself.” He likened Trump’s tone to that of Herbert Hoover’s infamous campaign slogan, suggesting that it was an unusual approach for a politician.
As reported, Springsteen’s remarks provoked the president’s ire during a European tour last week, where he reflected on the state of the U.S. under Trump’s leadership. Springsteen declared, “America, the country I love and have written about, has been a beacon of hope for 250 years. But now, it feels like it’s held by corrupt administrations.” He called for unity and action against authoritarianism.
In response, Trump criticized Springsteen for speaking negatively about the U.S. while overseas. Meanwhile, the musician didn’t hold back during a performance in Manchester, referring to the U.S. government as a “Rogue” entity and dedicating a song to “Dear Leader,” a nod to North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.
Springsteen underscored issues facing democracy in America, stating, “People are persecuted here for speaking out. It’s happening now.” He pointed to the indifference of the wealthy toward suffering among the poor and lamented actions taken against civil rights progress.
In reaction to Springsteen’s statements, Taylor Rogers, an assistant White House press secretary, highlighted that a significant number of Americans, about 77 million, supported Trump, suggesting they stood against elite commentary from figures like Springsteen.
