Allegations Against Suns CEO
Sophie Cunningham, who plays for the Indiana Fever, has allegedly had a sexual relationship with Josh Bartelstein, the CEO of the Phoenix Suns and Phoenix Mercury. These claims were brought to light in a lawsuit filed by a former Suns employee, Jean Trailer, who is suing Suns Legacy Partners LLC for discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
The lawsuit states that Trailer informed Bartelstein about another employee gossiping concerning a married executive associated with Cunningham. The former Mercury player released a statement, saying she feels disheartened by the “false accusations” against her.
“I’m here to compete and play basketball at the highest level, winning for the team and the fans while inspiring other women,” she stated. Cunningham expressed that she has always been open with the media, feeling that, in this instance, she wasn’t given the chance to address the allegations before headlines emerged.
She emphasized, “Untrue gossip won’t distract me from what truly matters: basketball, my support team, and my fans.” Additionally, the Suns denied the allegations through Senior Vice President of Communications Stacy Mitch, labeling them as “completely false and morally wrong.”
The organization also accused Trailer’s lawyer, Shelley, of including a “shameful lie and forgery” in the complaint. There seems to be a sense of ongoing tension surrounding these allegations, as both sides have expressed strong feelings about the matter.
A lawyer for Trailer, named Wright, described the Suns’ statement as retaliatory, criticizing it for undermining a legally protected advocacy. The situation continues to unfold, raising questions about its impact on the individuals involved and the wider organization.
