Yankees player wants to avoid rehab stint

Jazz Chisholm Jr. Expects Return Soon

Jazz Chisholm Jr. is optimistic about his return to the field, believing it could be in around two weeks. He’s hoping there won’t be a need for a stint in the minor leagues.

While attending a community event at Macombs Dam Park in the Bronx, Chisholm shared that he was close to starting batting practice and might begin hitting within a day or so. “We’re pretty close,” he mentioned.

About two and a half weeks ago, the Yankees indicated he would be sidelined for four to six weeks. Although Chisholm had been absent for nearly three weeks, he feels ready to make his comeback in a couple of weeks, with his first goal in sight.

Chisholm is eager to demonstrate that his batting skills are sufficient to impress the Yankees and avoid a trip to the minor leagues, such as Somerset or Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. “I don’t want to do the rehab assignments; I really wasn’t fond of them,” he stated, referring to his previous experience with rehabilitation while with the Marlins.

On the same day, Yankees manager Aaron Boone suggested that Chisholm might “probably” require some minor league games, but he wasn’t entirely sure. “I think it’s going to take some form, whether it’s a game or two,” Boone remarked before their series opener against the Rangers, though he emphasized that they weren’t discussing it in detail just yet.

In the meantime, Chisholm has partnered with the NYPD Sports Unit, dedicating some of his time to the SBH Health System baseball camp for children. “For me, it’s all about giving back to the kids,” he said, expressing his desire to engage with the community. He even provided tickets to Tuesday’s game for the children of the Hayes Cardinal Base baseball team, emphasizing his commitment to the Bronx. “I want to be a part of their community,” Chisholm added.
