Representative Eric Swalwell (D-Calif) has expressed that there’s definitely “room for improvement” in how Democratic leaders are tackling opposition to President Trump.
In a recent interview with Hill, Swalwell noted that the approach isn’t simply about whether one leans left or center-left. He remarked, “Are you using outdated methods to face this challenge, or are you employing new strategies?”
He believes there’s definitely potential for enhancement.
Swalwell explained that traditional methods involved sending the administration extensive letters loaded with strong language.
For instance, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) recently emphasized a “very strong letter” he and other Democrats sent to Trump regarding the cancellation of federal funds for Harvard University, which amounts to billions.
In contrast, Swalwell suggested that a more effective approach would involve using every procedural means in the House to counter Trump.
“This isn’t just a challenge from the 20th century; it poses an existential threat to our democracy,” Swalwell added. He’s also the executive producer of a new film titled “Words of War.”
“It’s essential to clarify who should lead and who needs to step back,” he continued.
Swalwell also mentioned the informal grades he assigned to his fellow Democrats, stating that he doesn’t see himself as a teacher in this context.
He said, “I put on my helmet and jump back into the fray.” The underlying sentiment is that he feels he’s doing everything possible at this moment.
