Trump hails Tim Tebow as ‘possibly the greatest’ while criticizing the Jets

Trump Hosts UF Basketball Team

President Donald Trump welcomed the University of Florida men’s basketball team on Tuesday, celebrating their recent national championship win. Among those present was the well-known UF figure, Tim Tebow.

During the event, Trump made it a point to acknowledge Tebow, expressing his admiration. “Thank you to the University of Florida legend. He’s truly one of the greatest players I’ve seen,” Trump stated. He went on to emphasize Tebow’s success in college and his achievements as a professional athlete.

Tebow, who entered the NFL when drafted 25th overall by the Denver Broncos in 2010, had a notable moment in the playoffs during his sophomore year, connecting with the late Demaryius Thomas for an 88-yard touchdown in overtime.

However, after the Broncos signed Peyton Manning, Tebow’s tenure in Denver came to a close, resulting in a trade to the Jets. His time with the Jets was somewhat controversial, as his coach hinted at using him in special teams and other roles. Yet, during that season, Tebow only made eight pass attempts and did not return to the field thereafter.

Despite this, Tebow’s college success remains impressive. He boasted two national championships and narrowly missed a third, all while winning the Heisman Trophy. Trump reiterated his admiration, saying, “He’s a winner, boys. Did you win two? No one does that.”

After his football career, Tebow transitioned to baseball, joining the New York Mets minor league system in 2016, playing until 2019. He participated in spring training in 2020 but the pandemic cut that minor league season short. In 2021, he shifted to a tight end with the Jaguars but did not secure a spot on the roster.
