Trump criticizes the shooting of Israeli Embassy personnel while a pro-Palestinian suspect is in custody.

Late Wednesday night, two Israeli embassy staff members were fatally shot near the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C. President Donald Trump reacted to the incident, stating that these “horrifying DC murders” rooted in anti-Semitism must end. He expressed condolences to the victims’ families and voiced his sadness over such violence occurring in America.

Authorities have reportedly detained a Palestinian man in connection with the killings. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized the commitment to bringing those responsible to justice.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog condemned the attack, labeling it a “despicable anti-Semitic terrorist act.” He extended support to the American Jewish community and shared his devastation over the deaths of the Israeli embassy staff, emphasizing the unity between America and Israel against hate.

The North American Jewish Federation also released a statement expressing their horror at the murders and stated they are working diligently to understand the situation. They expressed their solidarity with the victims’ families and confirmed their top priority is the safety and security of the community.

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser characterized the incident as “terrifying,” assuring residents there was no ongoing threat. She reiterated that the city does not tolerate such violence or acts of hatred. The alleged shooter, identified as 30-year-old Elias Rodriguez from Chicago, is believed to have acted alone and is now in custody. Major City Police Chief Pamela Smith noted that the weapon used in the attack has been recovered, and the Department of Homeland Security is actively investigating the matter.
