SMU football created a graphic to celebrate its average GPA.

University can be quite challenging, as I’ve seen firsthand. It’s not just about going to class; juggling everything outside definitely affects your grades. I happen to have two degrees from Northwestern University, so I get it.

That said, if I were part of SMU’s social media team, I’d probably think twice about that post. It turned into a meme for everyone to poke fun at, which — I guess — defeats the purpose of trying to celebrate student-athletes beyond the field.

Seriously, why share this? I mean, college is tough, and I’m not trying to drag their players down. But is a GPA of 2.95 really something to brag about? What’s the deal over at SMU? It’s a bit puzzling.

And it’s not like this stands out even; back in 2019, Texas highlighted a GPA of 2.89 as their best ever. That’s kind of surprising, given everything else we expect from a major program.

Something is definitely happening in Texas, though I’m not sure what it is. But, honestly, it seems like they might need to get some tutoring help or something.
