The upcoming season of the popular reality competition show is set to feature some intriguing cast members, including prominent Democratic staffers.
Alex Moore, who recently retired as communications director for Illinois Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky, is among the 18 “Castaways” slated to appear in the 49th season of “Survivor.” In a trailer for the season, Moore notes, “I’m working on Capitol Hill, and I think it’s what prepared me for the survivor experience.”
Moore seems to suggest that his strategy is somewhat tied to his day job, describing it as “butt-kissing” in the trailer.
Jacob Rubashkin shared on social media that other Democratic staff are also joining the reality show, dubbing it “Life in the House Minority.”
Interestingly, last fall another Democratic staffer was voted off during “Survivor” season 47. This former staffer, Jon Lovett, is known for co-hosting the left-leaning podcast Pod Save America.
Jeff Probst, the show’s long-time host, has referred to the new contestants as “likeable and quirky.”
The cast includes characters who introduce themselves in peculiar ways, with one claiming to be a “mythical and legendary Liz God” while another contestant aims to portray a mermaid with seductive abilities. Another describes himself as a cutthroat journalist with a destructive approach.
These competitors will need to face the challenges of “Fiji’s summer; it feels like the jungle is breathing on you,” which certainly adds an element of intensity to the game.
Season 49 was filmed in Fiji between April and May. While it hasn’t yet been confirmed for CBS’s fall 2025 lineup, there’s plenty of anticipation around it.
Schakowsky recently announced she will not be seeking reelection at the end of the current term. This came shortly after a notable left-wing influencer declared her intent to run for Schakowsky’s seat.
Moore has not yet responded to requests for comments regarding his participation.
