Exciting Knicks-Pacers Game 1 brought in great ratings for TNT

NBA Eastern Conference Finals Ratings Shine

The clash between the Knicks and Pacers turned out to be a major hit for TNT, as the Eastern Conference Finals opener aired on Wednesday night. The Pacers’ thrilling comeback victory not only surprised Knicks fans but also thrilled attendees from Indiana, culminating in an average viewership of 6.6 million. At its peak, the viewership reached 8.5 million around 11 PM, with the network highlighting the achievement within 24 hours of what they termed an “Instant Classic.”

This game marked the highest viewership for an Eastern Conference Finals Game 1 in seven years, surpassing the average of 7.24 million viewers that tuned in during the 2018 matchup between LeBron James’ Cavaliers and the Celtics on ABC.

The series between the Knicks and Pacers was shown on ESPN and ESPN 2, attracting an average audience of 6.4 million, which is a 2% bump compared to the Pacers-Celtics series from the previous year, according to reports. Viewer numbers saw a spike, especially during the intense overtime finish.

The NBA is likely pleased with the competitive nature of the Pacers and Knicks meeting again in the playoffs, especially after their previous encounter the preceding season. This rivalry is noteworthy as it also signifies the last NBA playoff series aired on TNT.

The game had its drama, including a tense moment when Mikal Bridges lost control of the ball in the closing seconds of overtime. Meanwhile, Tyrese Halliburton celebrated a buzzer-beater, throwing a gesture filled with excitement.

With this season’s conclusion, the cable channel will wrap up its NBA broadcasts as the league transitions to NBC and Amazon Prime Video next season under a new media rights agreement. Fans can expect the conference final games to shift between these platforms.

As the series continues, Kevin Harlan, Reggie Miller, and Stan Van Gundy will be on hand to provide commentary, ensuring that the coverage remains engaging during this significant playoff moment.
