Oklahoma City Thunder Advances in Western Conference Finals

In a standout performance, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 38 points just a day after being named the NBA MVP, leading the Oklahoma City Thunder to a convincing 118-103 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night. This win puts the Thunder ahead 2-0 in the Western Conference Finals.

After receiving the MVP award from Commissioner Adam Silver before the game, Gilgeous-Alexander shot 12 for 21 from the field and 13 for 15 from the free-throw line. He also contributed eight assists and three steals, further showcasing his impressive skills.

Meanwhile, Jalen Williams had a solid game as well, recording 26 points and 10 rebounds, while Chet Holmgren chipped in with 22 points. Earlier in the day, Lu Dort earned First-Team All Defense honors, and Williams made the second-team list, which definitely played a role in the Thunder’s defensive strategy that held Minnesota to a 41.4% shooting rate.

On the Timberwolves’ side, Anthony Edwards led the scoring with 32 points, though he did so on 26 attempts. Jaden McDaniels added 22 points, and Nickeil Walker-Alexander contributed 17.

With Game 3 set for Saturday in Minneapolis, Gilgeous-Alexander hit a crucial three-pointer with just 16 seconds left in the first half, and then followed it up with a free throw to put Oklahoma City ahead 58-50 at halftime. He managed 19 points before the break, setting a strong tone for the rest of the game.

During the third quarter, Gilgeous-Alexander drove into the paint and took a challenging shot, drawing a foul from his cousin, Nickeil Alexander-Walker. Following that sequence, he secured a free throw that pushed the Thunder’s lead to 73-64.

A sequence involving Rob, who passed it to Holmgren via Casson Wallace, helped extend Oklahoma City’s lead to 82-65 during the latter part of the third quarter, allowing the Thunder to maintain a strong position as they entered the final quarter, leading 93-71.
