Trump Hosts Investors Amid Protests
On Thursday, President Donald Trump held a gathering for key investors of his cryptocurrency project at a luxury golf course in northern Virginia. Among the attendees was former NBA player Lamar Odom.
Outside the venue, protesters voiced their discontent, displaying signs with messages like “stop the corruption of the code” and “not stop the corrupt fools.” Interestingly, Odom himself was not immune to the protests, despite his prominent role at the event.
While attempting to enter the gala, Odom remarked, “I’m just going through security and officially trying to step into the Trump Gala. Honestly… I’ve been fired.” He continued, “Think about it. Has Memecoin ever done this? $odom is not just a token; it’s on stage at the President’s Gala tonight!” He also referred to the experience as “the most authentic soulful experience in the history of code.”
Notably, one of the notable figures protesting was Senator Jeff Merkley, a Democrat from Oregon. He referred to the event as “the Crypto Corruption Club” and compared it to the “Mount Everest of corruption.”
Three days before Trump assumed office on January 20, he announced the launch of the $Trump Meme Coin, framing it as a way for supporters to “enjoy.” The coin initially experienced a spike in value, but then saw a significant drop. Reports indicate that creators, including those connected to the Trump organization, have earned substantial amounts from transaction fees.
Critics have raised concerns that Trump’s ties to cryptocurrency ventures might lead to conflicts of interest and impact various stakeholders.
Lamar Odom, who played 14 seasons in the NBA, spent 12 of those with the Clippers and Lakers. He won consecutive championships with the Lakers in 2009 and 2010 and was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year for the 2010-11 season.
