Ending Clarified for ‘Sirens’: Showrunner Molly Smith Metzler Discusses What Lies Ahead for Simone and Devon

Netflix’s siren: A Dive into Family and Ambition

Netflix’s new show siren takes an intriguing approach—it’s not just another loud class satire or a straightforward murder mystery. Instead, it weaves together elements of mythology, magic, betrayal, and, well, some common sense. As series creator Molly Smith Metzler shared, it’s “a story as old as time,” ending on a surprisingly touching note, albeit with a twist.

**Spoilers for siren Streaming Now on Netflix**

The plot unfolds during an eventful Labor Day weekend at a luxurious Martha’s Vineyard estate. Devon DeWitt (played by Meghann Fahy) makes an unexpected visit to confront her sister, Simone (Milly Alcock), about her lengthy absence from the family. It turns out, Simone is completely engrossed in her demanding boss, Michaela Kel (Julianne Moore). She’s immersed in a somewhat cult-like world filled with designer clothes and pretentious food.

Devon is suspicious of Michaela’s influence and goes to great lengths to reconnect with Simone. But things take a wild turn when Simone’s boyfriend, Ethan (Glenn Howerton), has a dramatic mishap and falls off a cliff, leading Devon to reassess her opinions about Michaela. Surprisingly, Peter Kell (Kevin Bacon) seems to abandon his wife and start pursuing Simone!

What really happens at the show’s conclusion? Have you ever found yourself in a bizarre social scenario? Why isn’t Devon sailing away with “Captain Morgan” (Trevor Salter)? And will Simone eventually take Michaela’s place? Here’s a rundown of the ending of siren on Netflix…

The siren Ending: Will Simone Marry Peter?

In the final moments of siren, it echoes the narrative arc of *Everything about Eve* in a way. Simone pushes her once-beloved boss off her pedestal in order to rise to her place. Initially, Michaela is paranoid that her husband, Peter, is being unfaithful. She sends Simone to keep an eye on him, but the assignment gets abandoned. Peter’s revelation about reuniting with his adult child adds a layer of complexity, as he feels the need to reconnect after recently becoming a grandfather.

Things get steamy between Simone and Peter when they share a kiss, but he backtracks, making it awkward. Meanwhile, a Vanity Fair photographer captures them, and, of course, it gets back to Michaela. She promptly fires Simone and divorces Peter, leveraging the affair as a means to secure financial stability.

In the midst of all this, Ethan, Simone’s affluent boyfriend, appears and proposes to her, but she declines. Then he gets drunk, has a falling out with Simone, and quite literally falls down a cliff—but he survives.

Simone feels lost after being cut off from Michaela. Meanwhile, Peter realizes the impact of Michaela firing Simone and sends someone to undermine her. At a gala, Peter drops Michaela for Simone, and chaos ensues as emotions run high.

Devon, ultimately, decides to go back to Buffalo with her father. On a ferry ride back, she learns that her previous chant with Michaela means nothing now. However, we see a bond form between the two women, as they navigate their new reality.

When asked if she’ll replace Michaela, Metzler was vague, hinting, “I think the audience will have their interpretations.” She noted that it’s a timeless story, opening and closing on a cliff, embodying elements of Greek mythology.

There’s an underlying concern that Devon doesn’t achieve a happy ending. Metzler suggested that perhaps there’s still hope for her—a chance to leave on a yacht. “I really think she will become someone who evolves after this weekend,” she remarked.

While Metzler didn’t want the show to feel like a hefty manual for Greek mythology, she emphasized that certain characters are meant to symbolize larger themes. Peter is designed to embody some sort of larger-than-life presence.

Will There Be a Season 2 of siren?

siren was set up as a limited series, comprised of five parts. When asked about a potential Season 2, Metzler shared that she has developed these characters in her mind for fifteen years. “I see a clear beginning, middle, and end in this particular chapter,” she said. “So, it’s unlikely there will be more, but who knows?”
