ICE and Federal Agencies Conduct Raids, Arrest 275 Illegal Aliens
Recently, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers, along with other federal law enforcement agencies, apprehended 275 individuals living illegally in the country during a seven-day operation that has now concluded. Officials noted that at least 178 of those arrested had prior criminal records.
“For too long, individuals with criminal backgrounds have exploited our immigration system, and we are committed to prioritizing public safety,” stated Sylvester M. Ortega, the acting field office director for ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations in San Antonio. “These collaborative efforts highlight what can be achieved when agencies unite for a shared goal: ensuring public safety.”
As part of the joint operation, ICE enforcement officers partnered with the Texas Department of Public Safety, alongside agents from the FBI, ATF, DEA, and Border Patrol, as well as former U.S. military representatives, to conduct the arrests up until May 11th.
According to reports, the 178 individuals with criminal records included:
- A 34-year-old man from Mexico, previously reported as a criminal, who was arrested on May 14 for a felony and is facing a second charge for illegal re-entry after deportation.
- A 37-year-old Cuban man arrested on May 15 for distribution of heroin, methamphetamine, and marijuana, alongside charges of counterfeiting and drug possession.
- A 49-year-old man from Mexico, also arrested on May 15, was previously convicted of assault, illegal re-entry, and disturbing the peace.
- A 57-year-old from Costa Rica, apprehended on May 16, was wanted by Costa Rican authorities for fraud.
Additional arrests included individuals with records for domestic violence, theft, drug possession, DWI, trafficking, weapons offenses, and assault charges.
