A man known for using a swirling app to conceal his identity online was captured following a global search. This individual, Christopher Paul Neal, a teacher in Canada, came into the limelight after a post about him surfaced on Reddit.
The post included two images of Neal—one filtered through the app and another unedited. He had previously been arrested in Thailand back in 2007.
Neal, now 32, faces serious allegations involving the abuse of a minor, with nearly 200 disturbing photos of young victims reportedly in circulation online.
At the time of his arrest, he was living with a Thai boyfriend in Nakhon Ratchasima, as reported by various outlets.
German authorities utilized digital technology to uncover the identities of several men filmed engaging in sexual acts with boys from Cambodia and Vietnam.
In just a few days, Interpol received about 350 inquiries regarding Neal’s personal information, including his age, nationality, and whereabouts.
Thai police tracked down potential leads to assist in the investigation in northeastern Thailand.
A crucial tip led to Neal’s arrest after law enforcement traveled a significant distance to apprehend him in Bangkok. There was a sense of anticipation among Interpol detectives following a focused nine-day manhunt.
Interestingly, Neal had abruptly left his teaching position on the same day his photos were made public, heading toward Bangkok International Airport.
When Thai immigration officials identified him at the airport, he had attempted to alter his appearance, wearing glasses and shaving his head.
After a young Thai man reported that Neal had abused him years earlier, an arrest warrant was issued.
Regarded as a “high-risk sex offender,” Neal was infamously dubbed the “swirl face” because of his efforts to mask his identity. His history includes time spent in Canadian and Thai prisons.
Now 50, Neal had traveled to Thailand multiple times between 2002 and 2004. Interpol issued a “red notice” to facilitate his extradition.
Tracking devices on his mobile phone led authorities to a 25-year-old Thai transsexual individual named Ohm, with whom Neal was staying. Upon his arrest, he confirmed his identity and sought legal counsel.
Neal was imprisoned in Thailand after being convicted of sexually assaulting two minors from 2008 to 2012. Following his release, he was deported to Canada.
Reports indicate that he pleaded guilty to five additional charges in December 2015, which included possessing child pornography and abusing a boy in Cambodia. His sentence was reduced due to previously served time.
