President Donald Trump delivered a speech at West Point on Saturday, addressing the school’s top athletes with enthusiasm. He expressed admiration for their accomplishments, particularly mentioning the men’s lacrosse team. “It’s quite impressive what you all have achieved,” Trump stated, emphasizing that last year marked Army lacrosse as the top men’s lacrosse team in the country, which he noted requires significant skill and effort.
He also spoke about the soccer team, highlighting their national ranking earlier this year. “Your sophomore team beat the Navy 20-17, then again the next year, winning 17-11, plus dominating the Air Force 23-3,” he shared. Trump continued with praise for the Black Knights, who managed to break into the top 20 nationally while referencing quarterback Bryson Daily, who has been a standout since he joined. “I’ve been to a game. I think he’s really dedicated to his path.” He then asked Daily to share a few words from the stage, where Daily responded, “I’m excited about Army football and love you guys.” It was a moment that resonated with many present.
Trump remarked on how impressed he was by Daily’s strength, sharing a light-hearted moment about hitting his shoulder and feeling it was like hitting steel. He reflected on the quarterback’s aspirations, noting that while many top college quarterbacks consider a professional career, Daily is focused on becoming an infantry officer. “That’s a unique choice,” Trump noted, appreciating Daily’s commitment to serving.
Earlier this month, Trump spoke to Alabama alumni, praising both the team and former head coach Nick Saban. During his West Point address, he referred to the academy as “the most elite military academy in history,” which seemed to resonate with the audience.
In a more controversial tone, Trump aired his disapproval of previous foreign policies and stated his intentions to end practices he associated with critical race theory and other initiatives, promising to promote a more merit-based system and traditional military values.
