Storms nationwide may disrupt Memorial Day travel

Thunderstorms are predicted to impact various regions nationwide during the anniversary weekend, creating challenges for travel both in the air and on the ground.

Heavy rainfall is expected in the southeastern and southern plains over the coming days, which might lead to flash flooding issues.

“The cold front is set to arrive on the anniversary, increasing the chances of storms. While strong morning storms may develop, we anticipate more intense ones in the afternoon,” a representative from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth, Texas, mentioned in a recent report.

“There’s a risk of significant hail, but the primary concern lies with damaging wind gusts,” they added.

The forecast tracker indicated that heavier rainfall is also anticipated in St. Louis and nearby areas by Monday, along with the possibility of hail in Birmingham.

On the West Coast, weather conditions have already caused flight delays.

On Saturday, Denver International Airport suspended all flights due to severe thunderstorms in the area.
