Hwang Soto Makes a Comeback Hit
Hwang Soto is back in the spotlight.
In Saturday night’s game against the Dodgers at Citi Field, the Mets’ high-profile player, who has struggled with a hefty $765 million contract, hit a double with the bases loaded during the fourth inning.
Soto nearly hit a grand slam, just missing a long fly ball that bounced off the top of the right field wall. He brought in Brett Batty and Francisco Lindor, but unfortunately, Sterling Marte was thrown out at the plate, halting the inning.
Still, his hit was significant, putting the Mets ahead 4-2.
In addition to the double, Soto also managed a single in the third inning after hitting deep center in the first.
He did pop out to left in the seventh, but it was a solid hit nonetheless.
While the rest of the Mets lineup hasn’t met expectations this season, Soto’s performance stands out, especially under pressure.
As noted by Joel Sherman, Soto had a tough night, reaching just .119 with runners on base.
This was a notable moment for him, especially as he had entered this game in the midst of an 11-game stretch without an extra-base hit.
Before his double, his batting average was at a disappointing .125.
Fans are hoping that Soto’s performance on Saturday night is a good sign for future games.
