Overnight, Russian drones and missiles targeted more than 20 cities throughout Ukraine as the nation continues to engage in a significant prisoner exchange amid the ongoing conflict.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky mentioned on social platform x that rescue missions were in progress across 30 cities and villages on Sunday, pushing for additional sanctions against Russia.
“Russia prolongs this war and causes casualties every day. The world might take a weekend break, but the conflict carries on, indifferent to days of the week,” he stated. “This situation cannot be overlooked. The lack of response from America and others only emboldens Putin.”
He urged the US, Europe, and “everyone who desires peace” to respond strongly to Russian assaults and increase the pressure on President Vladimir Putin.
“The current pressure on Russian authorities is not sufficient, and these atrocities won’t be curtailed,” he remarked. “War can be halted, but it requires decisive pressure on Russia.”
“Putin needs to be compelled to consider ending the war rather than launching missiles,” he added.
Zelensky confirmed online that over 300 war prisoners have been returned to Ukraine daily from Friday through Sunday.
Moscow has yet to comment on the latest attacks.
When rescuers combed through the rubble, reports indicated that a house had been completely destroyed. Ukrainian officials reported that 12 individuals were killed, with many others injured.
President Trump has urged both parties to seek peace and bring an end to the war that has stretched into its third year since Russia’s invasion of Eastern European nations. However, on Monday, he stepped back from calling for an immediate ceasefire, encouraging Zelensky and Putin to work towards a comprehensive resolution.
The White House did not provide an immediate response to inquiries from the Hill.
