House Speaker Discusses Medicaid and Fraud

On Sunday, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) mentioned during an appearance on CNN’s “Union Status” that there are reportedly over 1.4 million undocumented individuals enrolled in Medicaid.

“We’re not slashing Medicaid in this package. There’s quite a bit of misinformation about it,” Johnson stated.

He elaborated, saying, “The individuals impacted are those connected to our efforts to tackle fraud, waste, and abuse. Essentially, this means ensuring resources go to those who truly need them.”

Johnson expressed concern over what he views as misuse of the system: “There are about 4.8 million healthy young men, for instance, on Medicaid who are not working. They seem to be opting out of work as much as possible. It’s essentially gaming the system. By rooting out this kind of abuse, we can conserve vital resources for those who genuinely require assistance.”
