"Finally Free": Trump critiques climate alarmists for their absurd doomsday predictions

On Saturday, President Donald Trump mocked those worried about climate change, claiming their dire predictions have turned out to be baseless and nonsensical.

Trump laughed off a plan from scientists that, in his view, fits a pattern of climate activists using exaggerated claims to drive social change and increase regulations.

The unraveling of the narrative

For years, the perceived threat of human-caused climate change has made many public officials and scientists lose their grip. Various politicians in the West have undermined energy security, slowed natural processes, and hampered industries while targeting carbon dioxide—deemed a foe—while some scientists have suggested radical solutions, like blocking sunlight, or even “culling” humans through diseases. Others have proposed that people eat insects, reduce meat consumption, and have fewer children.

Critics argue that “climate change activism has been weaponized by Democrats to frighten Americans into supporting poor energy policies and funding questionable research.”

This frenzy is largely driven by misleading statements and outlandishly incorrect forecasts. Often, it just takes some time and a clear perspective to see these inaccuracies.

For instance, Al Gore, the former Democratic presidential candidate, once declared at the 2009 Copenhagen Climate Conference that new findings indicated a “75% chance that the Arctic ice sheet would be entirely ice-free during certain summers in the next five to seven years.” He also claimed that rising seas would swathe polar bears and melt snow on Kilimanjaro—a claim that’s since been disproven.

A study published in the journal Geophysical Research Letters noted that over the past twenty years, “Arctic sea ice loss has slowed considerably, showing no significant decrease in September ice extent since 2005.”

Interestingly, if Gore were to mistake the North Pole for the South Pole, he might still be wrong. In fact, Antarctica has gained ice at a rate of 119 billion tons per year from 2021 to 2023.

Arctic ice is just one of many elements falsely claimed to be at risk due to climate change. For instance, a 2017 survey indicated that climate change was a severe threat to the world’s coral reefs, necessitating “immediate global action.” Yet, researchers later admitted that widespread coral species could adapt to changing climates.

Bill Gates, a prominent figure in climate conversations, previously predicted dire outcomes if emissions weren’t reduced, but has since acknowledged that those catastrophic predictions were exaggerated.

Another blunder from the UN

Echoing Gates, the United Nations has found itself confronted with evidence challenging its stances on climate predictions. A study published recently stated that the worst-case scenarios outlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change are “unlikely” considering trends in renewable energy costs and recent emission patterns.

Researchers have developed various climate scenarios to model future emissions, factoring in dynamics like global population growth and energy sources. One particularly dire scenario, labeled RCP8.5, projected a drastic temperature rise of 4.3°C by the end of this century and has been frequently cited.

However, experts like Roger Pielke Jr. have criticized the consistency of these scenarios. He pointed out that within over a decade, RCP8.5 generated excessive attention while other scenarios were sidelined, contributing to a skewed understanding of climate trends.

Numerous scientists feel the pressure to recognize the inaccuracies of RCP8.5. Science journalist Maarten Keulemans shared reports that the highest disaster scenarios do not align with current realities. This realization could potentially change climate narratives significantly.

In a public statement, Trump emphasized, “After years of Democrats claiming that ‘climate change’ would decimate the planet, the UN’s top climate committee just conceded that its forecasts were wrong!”

He further lamented how climate activism has been used to frighten the populace and promote unwise energy policies, asserting that his administration values “truth, science, and facts” over alarmist narratives.
