Christie Brinkley Supports Billy Joel Amid Health Battle
Christie Brinkley has reached out to her ex-husband Billy Joel with words of encouragement just days after he announced a serious health diagnosis. Brinkley, who was married to Joel from 1985 to 1994, took to social media to express her support as he faces normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a condition that disrupts vision, hearing, and balance.
“Dear Billy, the whole Brinkley family is sending you lots of love and good wishes,” she posted alongside a video of a memorable moment at one of Joel’s concerts with their daughter, Sailor. “I stumbled upon this clip from a recent show while looking for a sweet picture of you and Alexa. It brought me laughter, truly, and it’s all thanks to the joy you create. You have this magic of transforming a crowd of strangers into a space filled with friends.”
Joel recently announced he would be canceling all his performances due to the brain injury he is dealing with. “This condition has worsened with recent concerts, which has impacted my hearing, vision, and balance,” he stated through a message on his website. Accordingly, he’s been advised by his doctors to engage in physical therapy and take the necessary time to recover.
“I believe I’m speaking for everyone who admires you when I say to take good care of yourself. We hope to see you back in that iconic spotlight in due time. You’re our piano man, and we all look forward to hearing your music again,” Brinkley added.
In addition, Joel’s wife, Alexis Roderick Joel, expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they’ve received. “We are truly thankful for the care and swift diagnosis Bill has gotten. He is a beloved father and husband, and we are hopeful for his recovery,” she shared.
Normal pressure hydrocephalus is a rare condition that results from a buildup of cerebrospinal fluid in the skull, often affecting older individuals. Surgical intervention, such as the installation of a shunt, is typically required to help drain excess fluid.
Despite their past, Brinkley and Joel maintain a close friendship. Their bond was evident when Joel performed “Uptown Girl” at Madison Square Garden, a song he originally wrote about her. He explained that while he initially aimed to write about multiple women, his relationship with Brinkley changed the song’s trajectory, leading him to focus solely on her.
As fans and loved ones rally behind him during this difficult time, Joel’s health and future performances remain at the forefront of many conversations.
