Liberals are upset about the Democrats’ reflection on losses with important voter groups happening in fancy hotels: ‘This is embarrassing’

Some liberals are expressing anger after learning that Democratic leaders and donors prefer staying in fancy hotels while seeming to forget about the working class. The frustration arose from a New York Times article discussing a recent gathering at a luxury hotel aimed at analyzing the party’s missteps during the 2024 election.

James Singer, a former spokesperson for the Biden and Harris campaign, voiced his disappointment, asking, “Why are there Democratic donors meeting in fancy places without engaging with actual working-class voters?” He added, “As a Democrat, I’m embarrassed.”

The New York Times article mentions a continuing soul-searching effort within the party to understand what went wrong in the recent elections. It referred to a meeting at the Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, California, where discussions centered on how to fortify Democratic support.

One suggested initiative, called “Speaking with American Men: A Strategic Plan,” comes with a hefty price tag of $20 million. This plan proposes targeted advertising in video games and calls for a shift in the party’s tone towards men, which some feel has been too judgmental.

Ammar Moussa, a former rapid response director for the Biden and Harris campaign, admitted, “This is really embarrassing.”

MSNBC contributor Rotimi Adeoye criticized the top-down approach, stating, “Democrats who treat men like they’re an endangered species won’t earn their trust back. It’s about understanding them, not just studying them.”

Michael Bajaraen, a chief political analyst, observed that such efforts reflect a deeper issue within the party’s engagement strategy.

Conservative voices have also seized on this narrative, highlighting the Democrats’ struggle to maintain support among male voters. Data from the American Women and Political Center indicates a notable gap, with men favoring Republicans by a margin of 10 points in recent elections.

Commenting on the Democrats’ approach, GOP pollster Frank Lunz quipped that spending $20 million to understand men is somewhat ironic. Ben Petersen from the National Republican Congressional Committee humorously noted the contrast of trying to learn about working-class voters from such an upscale venue.
