Host challenges trustworthiness of cabinet secretaries in Biden decline book

MSNBC Hosts Question Trust in Former Cabinet Secretaries

During a recent discussion on MSNBC, host Eugene Daniels raised doubts about trusting former members of the Biden administration, particularly in light of remarks made about the president’s decline. “Why should people trust them now?” he asked, expressing skepticism about their motives, suggesting that many might be seeking future opportunities in other administrations or think tanks.

The segment featured Axios reporter Alex Thompson, who talked about his new book, “Original Sin: Biden’s decline, cover-up, and the miserable choice to run again.” Co-host Elise Jordan highlighted a notable quote from a Cabinet member, mentioning that by 2023 and 2024, access to the president had become increasingly limited.

Thompson acknowledged Daniels’ question, stating some former officials might have seen their actions as helping Donald Trump rather than undermining Biden.

Later in the conversation, Jordan probed Thompson about how the involvement of these Cabinet members would impact public perceptions, noting that he had attempted for years to get them to speak out. “A lot of them were scared,” Thompson shared, admitting they weren’t aiming to remove Biden from the race but felt compelled to act after witnessing his inconsistencies.

In a lighter moment, Daniels turned to Thompson for a response regarding a social media post from Biden’s granddaughter, Naomi, who dismissed the book as “Political Fairy Smut.” In the post, she described the Biden family as tightly-knit and extremely loyal, which resonated with her perspective on the book’s narrative.

Daniels also mentioned reaching out to several former Biden officials to come on the show, hoping to lend support to the president. They were joined by Daniel Coe, Biden’s former assistant, who shared insights and addressed remarks made by Thompson.

As the discussion unfolded, Daniels asked Coe if he noticed any behaviors highlighted in Thompson’s book. Coe referenced Biden’s age, stating he never doubted the president’s ability to make sound decisions, emphasizing the legislation Biden managed to pass as evidence of his competence.
