John Nusmith’s Commitment to Miami Dolphins
Dolphins tight end John Nusmith is firmly against the idea of relocating.
As discussions about a potential trade arise and with Smith looking for a new deal for the 2025 season, his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, clarified his client’s intentions during a regular segment on Miami’s WSVN-7.
“What I can say for my client is that John definitely wants to remain in Miami,” Rosenhaus stated. “That’s his top choice. This is where he lives during the offseason. He had a record-breaking season last year—his best so far with the Dolphins. He set the team’s records for receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns, and represented the team in the Pro Bowl.”
“I hope everything works out so he can stay in Miami,” he added.
Before joining the Dolphins, Smith played for teams in Tennessee, New England, and Atlanta. Now 29, he’s had a standout season with Miami, having signed a two-year contract worth $8.4 million last year.
Smith achieved a career-high with 88 receptions on 111 targets, yielding 884 yards and matching a personal best of eight touchdowns. He led the Dolphins in both receptions and touchdown catches, finishing second in receiving yards.
These impressive stats led to his first Pro Bowl selection.
In 2025, he is projected to earn a base salary of $3.49 million, which would count $4.64 million against the team’s salary cap.
On the previous week’s “Pat McAfee Show,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport mentioned that Smith has been seeking “a lot of money” following his successful season.
However, the Dolphins might face challenges in meeting Smith’s financial expectations.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported recently that Smith was involved in trade talks with the Steelers after expressing a desire to renegotiate his contract.
Moreover, Jalen Ramsey could also be on the move, indicating that Smith isn’t the only player the Dolphins might consider trading.
