Twin sisters mark their 100th birthday and share advice for living a long life

A twin pair has just marked their remarkable 100th birthday, sharing the secret to their longevity—a passion for sports.

Williams Casey, or Bill, along with his brother Jack, celebrated this significant milestone with friends, cakes, and drinks at their nursing home in Didcot, Oxon, earlier this year.

Photos from the celebration capture the twins wearing inflatable crowns and holding a card from King Charles.

“We’re the oldest twins, by about ten minutes,” Bill shared, embracing retirement by engaging in drawing and daily exercise to maintain his health.

Reflecting on a century of life, he identified the computer as the most impactful invention he witnessed, citing its “surprising possibilities.”

When asked what he believed contributed to his longevity, he mentioned “a clean, healthy lifestyle, active living, pure resolve, and good genes.”

Bill quipped, “I always knew I’d make it to 100, and now that I’m here, I can’t wait for the next century!”

He advised the youth to “take an interest in sports, especially cricket, and stay active.” The twins, originally from Wandsworth in south London, joined the Army in 1945 as members of the Royal Electrical Engineer and Mechanical Engineer, spending 15 months in Malaysia. Bill jokingly mentioned, “We’ve encountered many of the same challenges as other twins!”

Bill met his future wife, Joan, in 1951 at Butlins in Wales, marrying in Cirencester in 1953, and welcoming their son, Martin, in 1955. They settled in Sutton, Surrey, where Bill took on the role of a government skills and training instructor before retiring in 1984.

Now residing at Williams Place, a McCarthy Stone nursing home, Bill is described as a warm and friendly member of the community by real estate manager Nina Woodbridge. “He has a great sense of humor and enjoys laughing with his neighbors and the team,” she added, expressing joy in celebrating this special occasion with him and his brother.
