It seems fitting that Saquon Barkley, with his jaw-dropping agility, is featured on the cover of the new “Madden” video game.
Barkley’s first season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024-25 was nothing short of remarkable, ending with a Super Bowl win. He tallied an impressive 2,005 rushing yards and 15 total touchdowns, showcasing plays that almost looked like they were taken straight out of a video game. Yet, his backward hurdle over a defender really stood out amidst all his highlights.
“Last season was everything for us. We had this collective opportunity to not only win the Super Bowl but also create unforgettable moments,” Barkley shared in a promotional video for his cover. “It really begins with your imagination. You know, as kids, we played video games and thought, ‘Why can’t I do that in real life?’”
During one memorable play against the Jaguars, Barkley caught a pass while Jalen Hurts was in his apartment. He darted past Jaguars defender Jalian Jones, leaping off the field to clear him and ultimately scoring a 14-yard gain.
“Saquon’s reverse hurdle is now regarded as a defining moment in the NFL—something that used to seem only possible in video games,” said Evan Dexter, who’s the Vice President of Franchise Strategy and Marketing for EA Sports Madden NFL.
Barkley has already solidified his legacy as a Super Bowl champion and is now the ninth player in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards in a season. His most impressive in-game moves will forever be part of that history.
“This is a show of athleticism and ingenuity, making him one of football’s most inspiring athletes,” Dexter added. “With Madden NFL 26, we’re offering players the chance to experience some of the remarkable moments Saquon displayed this past season.”
Barkley also gained entry into the prestigious “Madden 99 Club,” receiving the game’s highest rating of 99.
“Being featured on the cover of Madden NFL 26 and reaching the ’99 Club’ is honestly a dream come true,” Barkley mentioned. “I’m really thankful for the support from my teammates, coaches, and Eagles fans. We’re eager to get back out there and create even more highlight-worthy moments for Madden players to enjoy.”
For Eagles fans, all that’s left to hope for is that the so-called “Madden Curse” doesn’t come into play.
