Citizens from Honduras face federal charges after allegedly crashing into a barricade near Naval Air Base Pensacola in Florida and unlawfully entering the military property while attempting to evade law enforcement, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Orly Moises Garcia Hernandez, 34, has been accused of illegally entering military facilities and resisting arrest, as stated in a DOJ news release.
On May 25, Garcia Hernandez reportedly crashed into a checkpoint barricade at the base, fleeing on foot from military police.
After a pursuit, military police captured him. If convicted, he could confront a sentence of up to 18 months in prison and subsequent deportation.
Records from the Santa Rosa County Jail indicate that Garcia Hernandez is currently being held without bond.
The investigation is ongoing, involving both the U.S. Navy and Homeland Security.
According to the DOJ, this incident forms part of Operation Take Back America, aimed at addressing illegal immigration and combating organized criminal activities across borders.
The operation strives to enhance efforts from the Department of Homeland Security’s Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and Project Safe Neighborhood.
