Over the weekend, two motorcyclists were hospitalized after colliding with a six-foot crocodile on a Florida highway, as reported by the State Highway Patrol.
The unusual accident occurred on Interstate 4 in Borussia County around 6 PM on Saturday. Local news outlet WOFL spoke with both riders involved.
Cameron Gilmore, 67, now has a broken leg and toe after the encounter. He and 25-year-old Brandi Gross were riding with a larger group when they spotted what appeared to be a “big chunk of the road.” Gilmore initially thought it might be debris from a truck tire. However, upon impact, he discovered it was a crocodile, which sent him tumbling off his bike.
Gilmore recalled, “I said, ‘Yeah, help me, yes.’ Then I was just thinking, um, when will this stop? I kept sliding, wondering when it would end.”
Gross, who was riding behind him, experienced a similar situation. “I saw something and realized too late what it was. It just hit, and I was flipped over,” she explained. She sustained a concussion and a cracked wrist.
The crocodile’s injuries remain unconfirmed, and the incident is still under investigation. Despite their injuries, both Gilmore and Gross have maintained a positive outlook, with Gilmore humorously dubbing himself “Gator Gilmore.”
