Karen Reed’s Murder Trial: Testimony and Tensions
In the ongoing trial of Karen Reed, her defense team introduced a challenging witness: Kelly Dever, a Boston police officer previously affiliated with the Canton Police Department. Dever, who was on duty the morning of the incident but didn’t take part in the investigation, recounts that she had seen Reed’s SUV for what felt like a “very long time” at the police headquarters in Canton.
Interestingly, during her testimony, Dever suggested that the timeline presented to her by FBI agents contradicted her earlier statement, leading her to retract some of her words. She even accused Reed’s defense team of exerting pressure on her, alleging that they had threatened to charge her if she didn’t comply with their narrative. “I told them I saw nothing, and they want me to say otherwise,” she stated vehemently when addressing attorney Alan Jackson.
This tension escalated when Reed herself spoke to reporters, denying the defense team’s coercive tactics. “We just wanted her to recount what she shared with other authorities. Today, she’s changing her story,” Reed explained, reflecting her frustration at Dever’s apparent shift. Reed also characterized Dever as a “compromising person” amidst the courtroom drama.
Dever showed visible signs of annoyance and even mispronounced Jackson’s name, increasing the tension on the stand. He noted, “It was a risky move to call her, but her negative demeanor in court might just aid the defense.”
