Steelers’ Mason Rudolph Draws Mixed Reactions at Trump Rally
Mason Rudolph, the quarterback for the Steelers, received a warm reception from some attendees at a Trump rally in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, last week. However, not everyone among the crowd was thrilled with his presence.
Rudolph, along with safety Miles Killebrew, joined Steelers great Rocky Bleier at the rally held last Friday night, where Bleier presented Trump with a custom Steelers jersey.
“I’m proud to make you an honorary Pittsburgh Steeler and present this jersey to you,” Bleier stated.
Trump enthusiastically introduced Rudolph, highlighting his attributes. “I think a really good quarterback is a guy called Mason Rudolph,” Trump remarked. “He’s tall. He’s handsome. He has great arms. And I feel like he’s going to be a guy.”
On the other hand, Gerry Dulac expressed criticism in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, describing the event as resembling a rally rather than a sports gathering. He mentioned that as a season ticket holder, he was upset about the appearance of Rudolph and Killebrew and believed the team should have communicated with fans regarding the incident.
Dulac referred to a communication that acknowledged fan reactions, stating, “As a passionate fan, your voice is an important part of what makes the Steelers community and fanbase so strong.” The response indicated an understanding of the mixed feelings among fans regarding recent events.
The message further clarified that while current and former players have the autonomy to express their opinions, their views do not necessarily align with the Steelers organization. The Rooneys, who own the franchise, have a history of supporting the Democratic Party, with Art Rooney II serving as ambassador to Ireland during the Obama presidency.
Ultimately, the Steelers maintain that players have the right to express their views, and it’s important to recognize that personal opinions may vary widely within the team.
