Attack in Boulder Sparks Controversy Over Immigration Policies
Recently, a local district attorney indicated that Colorado’s permissive laws contributed to an environment where anti-Semitic assaults could happen. George Browler, the Republican District Attorney for Colorado’s 23rd District, expressed concerns about the state government, led by Democrats, fostering a loose immigration atmosphere.
Browler suggested that this creates a sense of immunity among illegal immigrants, including a suspect named Muhammad Sabri Soliman, who is accused of being involved in a bomb attack linked to pro-Israel activism over the weekend. A spokesperson from the Department of Homeland Security reported that Soliman, an Egyptian national, was in the U.S. illegally, having entered on a visa that expired in February 2023 after applying for asylum in August 2022.
Victims Connected to Holocaust Survivor Community
The FBI reported that Soliman allegedly injured eight individuals during the attack, including an elderly victim aged 88. Witnesses noted that assailants chanted “free Palestine” and used flamethrowers against those gathered for a run supporting hostages held in Gaza. The situation escalated, leaving some hospitalized with burns.
Browler emphasized that as the state government continues to position itself as a sanctuary for both citizens and non-citizens, it potentially emboldens individuals to act without fear of repercussions. He conveyed a serious concern: “When our state government continuously implements measures over the years that accommodate this environment, it somehow makes anyone feel they can act without regard for the law.”
Authorities Investigating Potential Radicalization
In light of the incident, Browler expressed hope that the Trump administration would take charge of the case to set an example. He noted historical federal respect for local prosecutors handling significant cases, predicting a focus on addressing illegal immigration and anti-Semitic acts.
Browler stated, “We’ve seen anti-Semitism rising, and I fear if we don’t address it robustly now, it could escalate further.” He reiterated that this incident marks a troubling moment for the community.
