Vermont Rep. Balint receives criticism for inappropriate remarks about immigration workers

Congressman Condemned Over Immigration Remarks

On Tuesday, Vermont’s only U.S. Congressman faced backlash after a video surfaced in which he stated that immigration must increase to avoid certain repercussions. Vermont Republican Party Chairman Paul Dame criticized Senator Becca Balint, a Democrat, asserting that her choice of words and emotional tone were inappropriate and exposed a disrespect for immigrants seeking freedom and better lives.

Dame expressed concern about the language used by federal representatives, noting that it often comes off as “rough and vulgar.” He mentioned that these comments can indicate deeper issues regarding respect and dignity for those entering the country.

Interestingly, while condemning the remarks, Dame acknowledged the importance of immigrant labor in Vermont, citing the state’s microchip factory in Essex Junction and the need for qualified doctors in hospitals.

Mark Coaster, a small business owner and Republican challenger to Balint in 2026, also criticized her statements. He shared a headline about immigration enforcement actions that seemed to conflict with Balint’s position, suggesting hypocrisy in her approach.

Balint herself recently shared her thoughts on the immigration issue while speaking in Newport. She recalled an experience where middle schoolers were asked to take a citizenship test and was taken aback by the challenges they faced. She emphasized the need for an orderly immigration system, acknowledging that labor shortages could have profound consequences for the state.

Moreover, Balint pointed to the “lawlessness” that has persisted since the Trump administration, condemning what she described as immoral practices affecting immigrant families. She expressed Vermont’s commitment to being a welcoming place for immigrants and insisted that all workers are entitled to dignity and fairness.

In an increasingly heated political environment, Balint reaffirmed her stance against the targeting of immigrant families and reiterated her support for their rights in America.
