Leadership Changes at JPMorgan Chase
JPMorgan Chase has announced some significant leadership transitions. Lake Marianne, who heads the Consumer and Community Banking Division, is now also responsible for overseeing the overseas Consumer Banking Division and the Strategic Growth Office.
This move comes as Sanoke Viswanathan has resigned from his position to take on the role of CEO at FactSet, a data company. An internal memo shared on June 3 confirmed this change.
According to a report by Bloomberg, Lake is now considered a major candidate for the CEO position currently held by Jamie Dimon. Viswanathan had previously been seen as a potential successor before his departure.
Daniel Pinto acknowledged Viswanathan’s contributions to the bank, noting, “Sanoke had a positive impact on JPMorgan Chase that was indelible. He benefited greatly from his entrepreneurial thinking,” in a memo regarding the changes.
As of now, JPMorgan’s consumer banking division in the UK serves about 2.5 million customers, with plans to expand across Europe, as mentioned in the internal note.
In another report, Reuters highlighted that Viswanathan has been with JPMorgan for over a decade and was part of its steering committee. He is expected to start at FactSet in September.
In their note, Dimon and Pinto reassured stakeholders by stating, “We are fortunate to have a strong leadership team in all of these businesses. Sanoke will work closely with them to ensure a smooth transition.”
In a press release from FactSet, Viswanathan explained that his attraction to the company lies in its role in global financial markets and focus on delivering value to clients. He expressed eagerness to support FactSet’s growth as a data and workflow solution provider.
Previously, Lake served as CFO at JPMorgan Chase before taking on the CEO role of the consumer lending business in April 2019. Her appointment was interpreted as a signal that she could potentially succeed Dimon in the future.
Recently, during an appearance on Fox Business, Dimon addressed questions about his retirement plans, mentioning that it’s ultimately “up to God and the committee.” He emphasized the strength of the team, noting, “We have great people. We have the right time.”
