Conservative Leaders Applaud Trump’s Move to Boost Drilling in Alaska

Energy advocates in conservative circles are expressing satisfaction with President Donald Trump’s recent initiatives aimed at expanding drilling activities in the U.S.

This Monday, proposals emerged to revoke restrictions on oil and gas extraction in Alaska’s National Oil Reserve, which were put in place by President Joe Biden. This change comes from the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Interior Secretary Doug Burgham remarked that the previous restrictions overlooked the 1976 Navy Oil Reserves Production Act, which limits energy exploration on significant portions of Alaska’s north slope—specifically more than half of the reserve’s 23 million acres.

Frank Russey, the president of Energy and Climate Truth, voiced strong support, stating, “The National Petroleum Reserve, established by Congress to secure America’s energy supply, facilitates responsible oil development across 13 million acres.”

He added that Biden’s drilling ban had detrimental effects, leading to increased dependence on foreign oil and climbing gasoline prices, which in turn fueled inflation due to rising transport costs. Lasee also emphasized that lifting the ban represents a chance for economic growth and prioritizes energy independence over climate considerations.

Further reflecting on Trump’s plan, Sterling Burnett from the Heartland Institute stated that Biden’s pause on drilling was misguided and praised Trump for prioritizing both energy needs and economic interests.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the 2024 regulations fail to support the Navy Oil Reserves Production Act and challenge the Bureau of Land Management’s responsibilities regarding lease oversight in the region.

Jason Isaac, CEO of the American Energy Institute, called Trump’s action a courageous step towards retrieving American energy independence. He commented that restoring access to these 13 million acres would boost the economy and lower energy costs, benefiting American consumers and workers.

Some experts believe that Trump’s administration needs to go further to reassure investors about the viability of Alaska’s leases, as there are concerns stemming from litigation by environmental activists.

In addition, Trump and his supporters are actively working to dismantle some of Biden’s Green Energy policies, seeing opportunities to advance their agenda through budget negotiations.

The ongoing drilling moratorium imposed by the Biden administration is projected to heavily influence transportation costs and overall gasoline prices throughout various sectors in the U.S. economy, prompting concerns about inflationary effects.
