Indiana Police Arrest Woman in Tanning Bed Overdose Case

A woman has been taken into custody for her alleged involvement in the overdose death of a 39-year-old man, whose body was discovered inside a tanning bed three days after he visited a Planet Fitness gym.

The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) reported that Heather Bradford, 41, faces charges related to death, drug possession, and handling a controlled substance, along with two outstanding warrants from Morgan County, Indiana.

Police were called to Planet Fitness shortly before 8:30 AM on November 11 after being alerted about the discovery of the body.

The deceased man was identified as Derek Sink. Records from the police show that his family last had contact with him on November 8, and they reported him missing on November 10.

Sinks’s body was pronounced dead at the gym, with the coroner determining the cause of death to be a drug overdose.

The IMPD’s Overdose Death Task Force took over the investigation. After employing various investigative methods, they identified Bradford as a suspect in Sink’s overdose death.

The following day, investigators found Bradford at a gas station in Mooresville, Indiana, where she was safely arrested by the ODTF, alongside Indiana State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

IMPD Chief Chris Bailey commented on the investigation, noting that these cases are emotionally demanding but necessary in efforts to tackle the ongoing overdose crisis. He emphasized that each arrest reflects a commitment to justice for affected families.

After Sink’s body was found, Planet Fitness made a statement reiterating their focus on the safety and well-being of members. McCall Gosselin, the Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, mentioned that franchise owners are cooperating with local authorities in the investigation.

In light of this incident, there may be calls for more rigorous safety protocols within gyms to prevent such tragic events in the future.
