Rep. Addison McDowell Suggests Closing Gap in Immigration Parole System

McDowell’s Laws Target Parole System Abuse

New legislation by McDowell is intended to address significant loopholes in the parole system, specifically aimed at preventing the misuse of the Immigrant Parole Act.

The key components of the laws include:

  • Citizens from China, Iran, Russia, North Korea, Cuba, and Syria can apply for parole without needing clearance from the Secretary of State.
  • Setting a cap of 3,000 parolees for the fiscal year starting in 2029.

This legislation is designed to ensure that future Democratic administrations cannot exploit the parole system.

“Immigrant parole should not be a tool for open border advocates enabling mass entry into the United States,” stated Tarheel conservatives. “Granting parole to foreigners in large numbers without thorough evaluations undermines the law’s intent, jeopardizes national security, and puts American lives at risk. This bill reinstates common sense by curbing parole and addressing individuals from hostile regimes.”

The proposed law has garnered considerable backing from conservative lawmakers and outside organizations.

Among its supporters are Randy Weber (R-TX), Lauren Boebert (R-CO), Ralph Norman (R-SC), Doug LaMalfa (R-CA), Abraham Hamadeh (R-AZ), Glenn Grothman (R-WI), Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Riley Moore (R-WV), and Nicholas Langworsity (R-HI).

In support of the legislation, Numbersusa released a statement:

The Biden administration’s mishandling of parole and exile has triggered an unprecedented immigration crisis. This law aims to prevent similar scenarios by enforcing a case-by-case review process for immigrants, drastically reducing the number of individuals allowed parole to 3,000 per year.

The Immigration Accountability Project also shared its thoughts:

The exploitation of parole authority by the Biden administration is without precedent and has effectively established an alternative immigration system through executive action, permitting millions of undocumented immigrants to enter and work in the country. While the Trump administration has ended these unlawful parole practices, ongoing reforms necessitate congressional oversight to address systematic immigration issues.

We appreciate Rep. McDowell’s initiative in introducing measures to prevent the misuse of the Immigration Parole Act. This law limits parole for countries seen as national security threats and sets numerical limits to inhibit future exploitation, aiming to clarify and enforce accountability regarding immigrant parole authority.
