Notable NYC Steakhouse Closes its Doors

On Wednesday, the restaurant scene in New York City was abuzz with the news of a beloved steakhouse closing after 19 years, and another ambitious Italian spot struggling just two months after its debut.

Porterhouse Bar & Grill, a long-standing favorite among steak lovers, has now shut down following Labor Day. Stephen M. Ross, former CEO of its affiliate, famously held meetings at tables with views of Central Park.

Located on the fourth floor of what used to be the Time Warner Center, now the Deutsche Bank Centre, Porterhouse was frequented by notable figures, including former Goldman Sachs head Lloyd Blankfein and ex-mayor Michael Bloomberg.

In a statement from Chef/Partner Michael Romonaco and the restaurant’s ownership, they shared, “We’ve made the hard choice to close our doors for good after Labor Day. Thank you for being a part of our New York story. Join us for one last summer celebration.”

An insider hinted that Porterhouse struggled due to the exodus of Warner executives moving to Hudson Yards, coupled with the increasing competition from new steakhouses nearby, including bourbon steak options.

Despite being recently acknowledged as one of the city’s top steakhouses by various publications, sources reported that the atmosphere changed significantly following management and kitchen overhauls last year, even though Romonaco maintained his chef title.

On another note, Nero Love’s Italian Cuisine Zone, which recently opened at 40 Wall Street amidst struggles for the Trump Organization, also made headlines. This massive eatery, boasting 350 seats and covering 21,000 square feet, was first announced back in 2020.

However, Nero Love took a surprising turn when it unexpectedly went dark last week. A sign on the door stated, “Sorry, the place will remain closed until further notice due to technical issues.”

Those trying to reach Nero Love received an automated response, failing to mention the restaurant directly. In an email, Miles Phenon, director of Trump’s commercial lease, declined to offer any additional comments.
