Michael Moore Proposes New Pledge of Allegiance
Filmmaker Michael Moore recently shared what he believes is an improved version of the American Pledge of Allegiance. In a post on his platform, he called for a pledge that reflects a focus on survival amidst the country’s current challenges, even while he critiqued his own ideas.
His revised pledge emphasizes a commitment to “the people” rather than the nation itself, suggesting a more global perspective—one that might disregard traditional notions of patriotism.
Moore’s new pledge states:
I pledge my loyalty to the people of the United States. And to the democracy where we all stand: one person, one vote, one country, one part of the world, everyone! Table seating! Everyone! Sliced pie! The pursuit of freedom and justice, equality, kindness, and happiness for all.
After unveiling this version of the pledge, Moore encouraged his audience to participate in political activism, suggesting that such engagement should be as natural as breathing.
Yet, he seems to misunderstand the very essence of America, arguing that the country has never been truly democratic. Interestingly, though he centers “the people” in his pledge, he has previously admitted to viewing them somewhat negatively. Last year, he criticized the American populace for electing Donald Trump, claiming they were “not good people” and labeling the situation a “women’s laundry list.”
