Halperin Critiques Jean-Pierre’s Qualifications
Political analyst Mark Halperin voiced criticism towards former White House spokesperson Karine Jean-Pierre following her announcement of a new book and her departure from the Democratic Party.
On Wednesday, Jean-Pierre revealed her upcoming book titled, “Independent: A Look at a Broken White House, Outside the Party Lines,” slated for release in October. Halperin expressed that Jean-Pierre was grossly unqualified for her role and suggested she wouldn’t have secured the position under former President Joe Biden.
He remarked, “There’s no doubt that part of the heat she got is because she’s not white, and anyone who disagrees with that is ridiculous. But if she were white, people would argue she would have been laughed at as the worst press secretary for many years. She was terrifying at her job. She shouldn’t have accepted it.”
Halperin implied that Jean-Pierre must have recognized her lack of qualifications for the position, stating, “Those who employed her, including the president, should feel ashamed for putting her in a role she wasn’t suited for.” He seemed to expect some accountability for those who offered her the job.
Other media outlets have reported on Jean-Pierre’s perceived incompetence during her tenure, noting that critiques were often muted. Halperin remarked that while responsibilities may have occasionally fallen to the National Security Council spokesperson, it didn’t change her qualifications for the role she held.
He also drew a parallel between the media’s recent acknowledgment of President Biden’s cognitive issues and their earlier attitudes toward Jean-Pierre, stating, “Now they’re happy to say, ‘Well, a lot of people didn’t think she was fit for the job.’” He added skepticism towards the publication of her book, expressing curiosity about its potential readership.
Throughout Biden’s presidency, Jean-Pierre defended his capabilities amid growing concerns regarding his cognitive decline. Just weeks before Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential race, she labeled critical videos as “cheap fakes,” asserting they were manipulated to misrepresent his eyesight.
