This playful method is not entirely without merit. “Tummy time” has emerged as a sort of remedy for those experiencing neck pain linked to excessive screen time. Many adults, particularly millennials and younger generations, are embracing this slightly childish practice in hopes of alleviating their discomfort.
According to the Mayo Clinic, “tech neck” encompasses chronic neck and shoulder pain caused by poor posture during tech use. It’s a real issue that many face in the digital age. Experts warn that simply tilting your head at a 45-degree angle to look at your phone can significantly increase your chances of experiencing neck problems.
The alarming statistic—most adults spend around three to eight hours daily leaning toward their screens—speaks volumes. Neck pain has become a prevalent issue, ranking as the fourth most common disorder, affecting over 30% of individuals at some point. While many episodes can resolve on their own, nearly half of those affected may continue to encounter lingering fatigue or discomfort.
Interestingly, about 24% of workers aged 16 to 26 reported that neck and back pain has even caused them to miss work. This persistent discomfort is becoming alarmingly common, almost like an “old person’s problem,” affecting younger individuals far too early.
To combat this, the idea of incorporating some tummy time into their routines seems to help. A movement inspired by how babies are positioned—on their bellies to strengthen their muscles—is now being adopted by adults. Many claim it offers relief from stiffness in the neck, arms, and back.

Now, these benefits are being acknowledged by adults as well. Influencer Megan Joe noted her own positive changes after integrating more tummy time into her day-to-day activities. “I already feel a difference,” she shared enthusiastically.
Yoga instructor Sam Lu also emphasizes the advantages of a baby-like approach. She suggests that just ten minutes a day can passively stretch the core and hips, improve spinal mobility, and aid digestion—crucial elements, particularly for those who spend long hours sitting.
One TikTok user, Ali Bissera, gained significant attention for sharing her tummy time practice, racking up an impressive 3.5 million views. “I set up my journal and book, and kicked my legs up. Let’s see if this helps!” she excitedly narrated.
It’s clear that a bit of playful experimentation, even if it feels slightly silly, might offer much-needed relief for those grappling with tech neck in today’s screen-centric lifestyle.
