Tom Hanks Supports His Daughter’s Memoir

Tom Hanks has voiced his support for his daughter, Ee Hanks, regarding her recent memoir titled “10: Family and Public Road Memoirs.” During a Wednesday interview, he discussed Ee’s candidness about her experiences, including allegations of abuse against her late mother.

Hanks expressed pride in his daughter. “She was always remarkable,” he noted, adding, “She’s very forthcoming about her journey.”

Ee Hanks Talks About Her Childhood

In her memoir, Ee openly addresses issues of “violence and deprivation” from her mother. Reflecting on parenting, Hanks remarked, “When you have kids, you notice their personalities reveal themselves at an early age. It’s fascinating.”

“We all come from a checkered, cracked life.”

He acknowledged that it’s not surprising for children to explore such personal matters, suggesting that her honesty is a valuable aspect of her narrative.

In “10,” which she published in April, Ee Hanks delves into her parents’ divorce and her complex childhood, where her mother’s behavior was sometimes emotionally and physically abusive. Hanks reflected on this, saying, “We all have our challenges.”

After their divorce in 1987, Ee’s mother gained full custody and relocated them to Sacramento. Ee recounted the challenges of her upbringing, including moments when her mother displayed what she believes were symptoms of untreated bipolar disorder. “Our fridge was either empty or filled with expired food while my mother became withdrawn,” Ee shared.

She recalled a particular evening when her mother’s emotional abuse escalated into physical violence, leading her to move to Los Angeles in seventh grade, which significantly altered her custody arrangements. “Now I mostly live in LA, with visits to Sacramento on weekends,” she explained.

In her senior year, Ee received news about her mother’s deteriorating health, as her mother passed away from lung cancer in 2002 at age 49.
